Once when I was little, I was at the beach with my family. We were wading in the shallows when suddenly the sand washed out beneath our feet. We were being pulled into
deeper water.
Like being caught in a rip tide, we may sometimes feel like we’re being swept out further and further from the lives we most want. Panic sets in when we recognize that we can’t fight the tide. It’s too strong. It’s not helpful to give in, and it’s useless to fight the tide directly.
The secret to working with riptides and overwhelm is to recognize that we don’t need to fight the current. We only need to swim sideways to be released from the strong current.
What are some small sideways movements that you can take in this moment?
How might focusing on smaller actions loosen your from the grip of overwhelm?
